Farming Operations

Background

Pārengarenga Station is a sheep and beef farm that is owned by Pārengarenga Incorporation (PINC). The head office and operational activities of PINC are located in and around the small community of Te Kao. The station is situated about 80km north of Kaitaia and 35km south of Cape Reinga.

The Pārengarenga rohe spans the top of New Zealand, from the Pacific Ocean in the East to the Tasman Sea in the West. PINC lands stretch from Te Kao in the South to Thoms Landing in the North. Our farm borders the pristine waters of Pārengarenga Harbour on the eastern shoreline.

The story of Pārengarenga Station is one of development. And that story will not have a final chapter. It’s about increasing stock numbers. It's about having a stock policy that suits the often-dry summer conditions of the Far North. Our reality is that Pārengarenga Station lambs in June/July and has most lambs off the farm by Christmas. This allows us to get premium prices and to take the feed pressure off capital stock in summer.

The station now breeds and finishes its own bulls. We sell them in winter/spring to achieve best price. A far cry from the early days when weaners were bought in and finished on the farm.

We have invested heavily in infrastructure improvements on Pārengarenga Station. This has included new fences, upgraded buildings and the sowing of better-quality pastures. The farm has lifted its game and is starting to reach its full potential.

But continuous improvement is our creed.....
