The forestry business operates on 10,000 hectares of land, of which 7,000 hectares are planted.  Our forestry operations have changed considerably over the last 5 years.  We recently obtained FSC accreditation.  FSC is the platform that will take our forestry business to the next level.  To support us on this journey we have created a new role of Silviculture Manager.

The Silviculture Manager will be responsible for:

• Leadership of the Silviculture team;

• Management of all operations which do not generate sales (e.g. planting, tending, thinning to waste, pest control (plant and animal); fire protection; maintenance and enhancement of natural areas);

• Health and safety:

  • High level oversight of health and safety across the Incorporation; and

  • Accountable for ensuring that all silviculture activities comply with relevant health and safety legislation and Incorporation policies and procedures;

• High level responsibility across the forest for  the Forest Environmental system (incl all FSC and other environmental policies, procedures and systems);

• Accountable for ensuring that all Silviculture activities comply with all FSC and environmental related policies, procedures, systems; and

• Management of all forest inventory operations.

The successful applicant will have a good understanding of planting, thinning, pest control and fire protection in a commercial forest.  Outstanding leadership skills are essential as is being passionate about protecting the environment.  A commitment to keeping our workers safe by developing and adhering to health and safety policies and practices is central to this role.  Previous experience of contributing to and managing FSC processes is also critical.
