Was established in 1956 as part of the Pārengarenga Toopu Development Scheme to "promote the occupation of Māori Freehold Land by Māori and the use of such land by Māori for farming purposes."
Pārengarenga Toopu comprised of:

Four Pārengarenga No.5 blocks totalling 38,149 acres

Pārengarenga No.1 of 200 acres

Five small Pakohu blocks at Te Mingi & Ngatekawa totalling 1,116 acres

The land was valued at £17,195 and 17,195 shares were issued(1 share = £1)

There were 1410 Māori shareholders plus the Crown
